Lilia Elvira Gomez de Herz, 97, of Jamaica, NY peacefully passed away Saturday, June 29th, at her daughter's home with her family by her side. Lilia was born in Ibague, Colombia on May 22, 1922, one of 12 children born to the late Elvira and Manuel Gomez. Lilia came to America in 1970 and lived in New York City until 3 years ago when she moved to Atlantic Highlands to be with her daughter. Lilia enjoyed gardening, dancing, knitting and cooking, but the thing she cherished most in life, was her family. She was "Mommie" to everyone that knew her. She often went without, in order for those around her to have more. Her home was the neighborhood home where everyone came. Her door was always open and there was always food on the table and a safe place to stay. She genuinely cared for people and will be greatly missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to have known her. Her compassion, selflessness, independence, strength, resiliency and determination were unmatched. She will be greatly missed by all whom had the privilege of knowing her.
Lilia was predeceased by her husband Alexander Herz in 1976. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Martha Herz and Jorge Rosas of Atlantic Highlands and two sons; Alexander Herz Gomez of Texas and Fernando Herz Gomez and his wife Luz-stella of Venezuela. Lilia also leaves behind her sister , Graciela White, of Tennessee; 6 grandchildren; Lilia , Fernando, Paola, Sandra, Tatiana and Monica along with 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
