Michael James Evernham, 23, a lifelong resident of Middletown, passed away Sunday, November 11th. Michael worked at Foodtown in Port Monmouth and Lubrano'sRestaurant in Middletown. Mike's passion was music. He taught himself to play several instruments including the piano and drums. He also taught himself several languages. He was fluent in Latin, Japanese, Greek, Spanish and Sanskrit. Mike was always trying new things. He loved animals, spending time at the beach and traveling, but he will always be remembered as the guy who could light up a room and make you laugh. Mike never failed to say I love you at the end of a day spent with family and was filled of knowledge in which he enjoyed sharing with anyone interested to learn. You could turn to Mike for advice and he was always someone to lend a hand or listen when you needed someone to talk to.
Michael is survived by his mother Margaret Clancy Evernham and his estranged father James Evernham, along with his maternal grandmother, Mary V. Clancy; two brothers, Walter and Chris Evernham, their sister Lauren O'Reilly, her husband T.J. and Mike's most cherished nephew, Jameson. Mike also leaves behind a step-brother, James, a step-sister, Melissa, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Thursday from 4-8 pm at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Catherine's Church, Bray Ave., Middletown at 10:30 am on Friday, November 16th with a private cremation to follow.
Michael would have loved to see young people develop an interest in music, so the family is asking that donations in Michael's memory be made to Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation at https://www.mhopus.org/donate/ The charity helps to provide instruments and music lessons to underprivileged school children.
