Alison Herring-Sarsam passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on March 22, 1952, in Princeton, West Virginia, Alison's early years were filled with the warmth of a close-knit family. In 1960, her family moved to Old Bridge, New Jersey, where she would grow up and later explore the various communities of Northern New Jersey before finally settling in Westville.
Alison was a woman of great intellect and compassion, which she channeled into her education and career. She graduated with a master's degree in Social Work from the University of Louisville, a testament to her dedication to helping others. After many years in Hospice work, Alison established her own private practice, providing counseling to a wide variety of clients.
Her loving nature extended well beyond her professional endeavors. Alison was predeceased by her parents and her sister Rosemary, and by her beloved husband, Hilal S. Sarsam. She is survived by her sisters, Carolyn Herring and Jennifer Herring, her brother and sister-in-law, David and Kim Herring, and her nieces Cathy and Laura. Together, they shared countless memories filled with joy and companionship.
Alison's faith was a cornerstone of her life. For many years she was an active member of the American 1st Baptist Church of Cranford/Elizabeth, where her musical talents were a regular source of inspiration. Her skillful playing of the piano and flute added a layer of beauty to the church services and events. Alison's love for music was matched by her creativity in other arts. She was known for her crafty hands, often found crocheting and quilting, creating beautiful pieces that were both a hobby and a way to express her love for those around her.
Those who knew Alison will remember her as a quiet spirit, generous and kind. She was also known for her intelligence, which shone through in her thoughtful conversations and insightful advice.
As we say goodbye to Alison Herring-Sarsam, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by compassion, goodwill, and her concern for the well-being of others.
