Carol L. Dowens, 88, of Keansburg, passed away Friday, May 19th. Carol was born and raised in Keansburg , lived in Port Monmouth while raising her daughter, then returned to Keansburg after her husband's passing. Carol started her work career at NJ Bell and later became the Attendance Officer for the Keansburg School District where she worked for many years before her retirement. Carol was a 50+ year member of the Port Monmouth Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary where she served as Past President. Carol was also Past President of the NJ Fireman's Assoc. Ladies Auxiliary. Carol volunteered at Riverview Medical Center, but her greatest life's work was her devotion to her daughter Carol Ann.
Carol was predeceased by her husband William H. Dowens in 1983. She was also predeceased by her siblings; George and Duwayne Mayer, Betty Rosenberg, and Shirley Riddle. Carol is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Dowens, and her sister Donna (Paul) Worth. Carol also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Tuesday from 4:30 - 7:30 pm and again Wednesday from 10 - 11 am just prior to the funeral service which will be held at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals, 153 Church St., Belford. The burial and committal will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
