Chris Anthopulos, 90, a lifelong resident of Port Monmouth, peacefully passed away while watching football at home on Sunday, November 27th. Chris started his fishing career when he was 16 and was one of the original founders of the Belford Seafood Co-op. Over the years Chris had 3 skiffs, his own fishing business and always had time to help other fishermen in the area. He was an avid Giants and Yankees fan and considered by many to be the best seafood cook on the Jersey shore. He was known for his homemade sweet potato pie and crab cakes. Chris may have barked orders on his boats, but he had a giant heart. Anyone who knew him, will greatly miss him.
Chris is survived by his devoted sister, Sophie Anthopulos and their beloved nieces who gave Chris exceptional care, Marybeth and Tina. He is also survived by his nephews Kevin (Antoinette), William and niece Maryann along with great nieces and nephews Michael, Sophia, Nicholas, Catelyn, Braydyn and Anthony. Chris also leaves behind his dear friends Lionel and Diane Caron and many friends from his fishing days and neighbors who are like family. Chris was predeceased by his brothers Ernest, James and Dennis.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm and again Friday at 10 am just prior to the 11 am funeral service at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals, 153 Church St., Belford .
