Damien James Kilpatrick, 36, of Keansburg, passed away Thursday, January 12th. Damien was born on June 4, 1980 in Long Branch. As a young boy, he lived in Philadelphia, Houston and Key West, where his love of the beach began, before moving back to the Jersey Shore. Damien was a talented musician. He taught himself to play the piano by ear when he was just 4 years old. He was a natural as a member in school bands throughout his years at Bolger Middle School and Keansburg High School. He was an avid Yankees fan and when the KHS Marching Band played opening day at the old Yankee Stadium in a snowstorm, Damien told anyone who would listen just how exciting it was, until the band was invited back later that year to play before one of the World Series games. Damien was an avid reader, he studied religion and psychology up until the end of his life. He loved family camping trips, and was an experienced skier. Damien was employed by Merritt Painting for many years, he also worked as a warehouse forklift operator, and as a waiter at Buona Sera and Neil Michael's Steak House.
Damien was predeceased by his Father, Jed W. Kilpatrick. He is survived by his mother and step-father Ruth and John Clancy of Keansburg; his grandmothers, Ruth Merritt, of Leonardo and Valerie Kilpatrick of Eatontown; his sisters, Tyler Brink and her children, Dakota and Janelle Sullivan of Keansburg and Megan Sutera and her husband Craig of Keansburg; and his brother John Clancy, of Keansburg. Damien also leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins, but he was especially close to his Uncle John and Aunt Veronica Merritt of Hendersonville, Tennessee; Uncle Rich and Aunt Pat Merritt of Leonardo; Aunt Dana and Uncle Mike Marshall their twins Madeline and Elizabeth Marshall of Hazlet; and his cousins; John and Sarah Merritt of Oviedo Fla.; Jason and Jessica Merritt of Belmar; Geni Rogers of Middletown; Perri and Tom Howlegg of Atlantic Highlands and Stefanie Merritt of Leonardo.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects Tuesday evening from 7-9 pm.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Saint Ann's RC Church, Keansburg, at 10:15 am on Wednesday, January 18th.
