David G. Thompson, a longstanding member of the community, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
David was born on December 21, 1925 in Belford, where he lived for 98 years. He shared a life with his wife, Bertha Thompson, for 77 years. Together, they built a family that included their son David "Bubby" Thompson and his wife Phyllis, their late son Walter "Zippy" Thompson and his wife Karen, and their late daughter Karen Guerrieri. David's legacy continued to grow with his six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride.
A man of the sea, David spent his working years as a commercial fisherman aboard his beloved boat the Dutch Girl. He was one of the founding members of the Belford Seafood Co-op. David's contributions to the industry and his fellow fishermen were invaluable.
David's interests extended beyond the rolling waves, as he was also a talented woodworker. His garage served as a sanctuary where he crafted lighthouses, lobster pot tables, and boat flower boxes, among other beautiful creations. These pieces were not only sold but also generously given to family and friends, a testament to his kind and giving nature.
Those who knew David would describe him as handy, kind, and generous. His ability to fix or create almost anything was matched only by his willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. David's kindness extended to all living creatures, including his beloved cat Tippy, who was a constant companion and source of comfort.
Please join his family at a Memorial Gathering on Tuesday, August 6th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. A Service will conclude the evening.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in David's memory to the Monmouth County SPCA.
