Gerald J. Eccleston

Gerald J. Eccleston, 78, of Hazlet, passed away Tuesday, August 1st. Gerald was born in Newark, a son of the late Mary and Roland Eccleston. Jerry grew up in Belford. He attended school with his future wife Carol, but they did not start dating until later when they were reunited while Carol was working in Newark and Jerry was living there. Once they married in 1963, they bought a home in Hazlet where they raised their family and have lived there ever since. Jerry repaired cameras for a living before he started working for Burnon Upholstery in Red Bank. He worked there for many years before retiring in 1999.  Jerry enjoyed attending classic car shows, rooting for his favorite teams; the Yankees and Cowboys,  and every Wednesday night he played guitar and sang at Espresso Joe's in Keyport. Jerry was also extremely artistic. Besides his love of music and playing the guitar, he enjoyed drawing with colored pencils and has gifted many of his pieces to family and friends.
Gerald is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Carol Eccleston and their two daughters;  Tina Eccleston, of Georgia; and Lori LaManna and her husband Roy, of Freehold. He also has a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald Jr. and Joann of California. Gerald also leaves behind 8 grandchildren; Sophia, Justin, Jordan, DJ, Destiny, Dakota, Holden, Jada ; 2 great grandchildren Isabella and Ethan and his step-sister Patty Davis.   He was predeceased by his 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Saturday from 2-5 pm at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals, 153 Church St., Belford. A private cremation will follow.
