Gerald Mc Keon Obituary

Gerald P. McKeon, known affectionately as Gerry to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on November 30, 1945, in Jersey City, Gerry dedicated his life to the field of education and the nurturing of young minds. He was a beloved 8th grade teacher at PS40 and later served as the assistant vice principal, a role in which he touched the lives of countless students and colleagues with his kindness and intelligence.

Gerry's journey through life was one marked by love, commitment, and the joy of learning. It was at PS40 that he met Diane, the school nurse who would become his dearest friend and, years later, his wife. Their partnership was a testament to their shared values and devotion to family. After retiring, the couple moved to Belford and later settled in Shadow Lake Village, where they enjoyed a peaceful retirement together.

Gerry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Diane Pecorino McKeon, just last year. He leaves behind a legacy of love and education through their two daughters, Stephanie Pecorino-Caruso and her husband Jeff, and Janet Biller and her companion Mike Ellis. His joy was multiplied by his two grandchildren, Ellen Larcara and her husband David, and Timothy Hoffman, who will carry forward his spirit of kindness and love of learning.

A proud graduate of St. Peter's College in Jersey City, Gerry's commitment to education never wavered. Even after retiring from his formal role, he continued to serve as a consultant for the Board of Education, sharing his wisdom and experience with the next generation of educators.

Gerry's interests extended beyond the classroom. He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast, with a particular passion for soccer, basketball, baseball and football. Notre Dame held a special place in his heart as his favorite college team. Gerry and Diane also cherished their time spent at their vacation home in St. Martin, where they created a trove of memories that will be cherished by their family and friends.

Those who knew Gerry will remember him as a kind and intelligent man, whose gentle demeanor and sharp mind made him a beloved figure in his community. His impact as an educator and mentor will be felt for generations to come, and his memory will be held dear in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
