Harriet Marchetta, 85, of Middletown, passed away Thursday, October 6th, surrounded by family at her home. Harriet was born in Bayonne, on August 6, 1937, the eldest of 6 children born to the late Henrietta (Mainhard) and Carl Spain. She lived in the Bayonne and Jersey City area most of her life before moving to Monmouth County in 1999. After raising her children, Harriet started a career with Toys-R-Us where she was the head dispatcher for distribution. Harriet was an avid reader and instilled the joy of reading in all her children. She enjoyed all sorts of games. From crossword puzzles to board games to ball games to games of chance and trips to Atlantic City. She followed the Mets and Giants on television and could often be found watching classic shows on MeTV. Harriet had a sweet tooth and loved fudge. She also had a great sense of humor and her "Harriet-isms" will be forever quoted. The memories she made during the holidays, especially Christmas and Easter, will always be cherished. She always went above and beyond to make the holidays special. Harriet will be fondly remembered as the matriarch of the family and an amazing mother.
Harriet is survived by her six children; Lena Marchetta-Finley, Mary Marchetta, Carleen Marchetta, Joan Marchetta, Rocco Marchetta and his wife Jenny, all of Middletown and Anthony Marchetta and his partner Steve Kingsbury of Egg Harbor City. She also leaves behind two sisters, Carol Rohlic and Joan DeAntonio and a brother, William Spain along with 3 grandchildren; Marie Finley, Virginia Finley and Samantha Marchetta and 3 great grandchildren; Alex Fernandes, Bella Swartz and Aurora Glover.
Harriet was predeceased by her younger twin sisters; Lois Mills and Lillian Gaffney
Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Sunday from 2 - 5 pm at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Catherine RC Church, Middletown, NJ, at 9:30 am on Monday, October 10th. A private cremation will follow.
