Jack Mafara, 87, a longtime resident of Belford, passed away Saturday, August 26th. Jack proudly served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. Jack was an entrepreneur, he started his career as a cabinet maker, then invested in the franchise Charles Chips, and later became a restaurant owner with Salvatore's Restaurant in Hazlet. When Jack was not busy working, he enjoyed tinkering around his home either wood working or gardening.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Joyce Mafara. He also leaves behind his niece Tammy Jacobs and nephew Joseph Mafara and his extended family members; sisters-in-law, Carol Dowlen, Patricia (Gary) Morris; brother-in-law William (Diane) Dowlen; Nieces and nephews, Michael Dowlen, MaryJo O'Rourke, BJ Dowlen, David and Maureen Morris along with 10 great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Catherine Mafara and his step mother Sue Mafara, brother Joseph, brother-in-law James Dowlen and nephew Terry Morris.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects Tuesday from 7-9 pm and Wednesday from 10 - 11 am just prior to the funeral service which will be held at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals, 153 Church St, Belford. The burial and committal will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
