Joan Ruth (Gray) Madger

Joan Madger, a beacon of laughter and love, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on January 6, 1953, in Burlington, Vermont, Joan's early years were spent in Shrewsbury. She later moved to Leonardo, where she would spend the majority of her adult life, creating a home filled with warmth and joy.

Joan's life was one of dedication and service, both to her family and her community. She was the beloved mother of Michael Ruth and Amanda Ruth, who, along with her fiancé John Bleibdrey, will carry forward her legacy of kindness. Joan was predeceased by their father John Ruth. Joan was a cherished companion to Howie Brower for 14 years, sharing countless memories and unwavering support. Her three adored grandchildren, Connor Ruth, Cailin Carr, and Jamie Ruth, were the light of her life, and she reveled in every moment spent with them. Joan was predeceased by her husband, John "Eddie" Madger, whose memory she held close to her heart.

Professionally, Joan was a long-time and respected employee at Beacon Hill Country Club, where she worked for many years until her retirement following her husband's passing in 2010. Her work ethic and friendly demeanor made her a favorite among colleagues and club members alike.

Joan's involvement with the American Legion Post 338, Ladies Auxiliary in Leonardo, was a testament to her commitment to community and camaraderie. She was an active participant, always ready to lend a hand or share a smile, making her a cherished member of the group.

A woman of diverse interests, Joan found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her trips to Atlantic City were a source of excitement and entertainment, with a mandatory stop at the Irish Pub being a highlight of each visit. She was a social butterfly, often found in the company of friends at the Legion, where her laughter was contagious and her presence a comfort.

Joan's love for puzzles and old western movies provided her with hours of relaxation and enjoyment. These hobbies were a reflection of her ability to find happiness in quiet moments. Her favorite moments though were the times spent with her family. Joan was a proud, loving and doting mother and grandmother.

Those who knew Joan would describe her as funny, friendly, and loving. Her sense of humor was infectious, and her ability to make others feel at ease was a gift that made her a cherished presence in any gathering. Joan's loving nature extended beyond her immediate circle, touching the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

As we bid farewell to Joan Madger, we celebrate a life lived with joy, a heart given freely to others, and a soul that enriched the world around her. She will be deeply missed, yet forever remembered with smiles and gratitude for the time we were blessed to have her in our lives.

Please join her family at a Memorial Gathering on Wednesday, March 19th from 6 - 8 pm at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals. A Service will conclude the evening.
