John A. Martorelli, Jr., 43, of Port Monmouth, passed away Thursday, July 20th, suddenly as a result of a motor vehicle accident. John was raised in Verona, where he was a member of the Verona Rescue Squad. He then joined the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed all over the country before settling in Port Monmouth 6 years ago. John retired from the U.S. Coast Guard last year after 20 years of service. He was currently an assistant store manager for West Marine at their Woodbridge store and had worked at the Atlantic Highlands store previously. John loved spending time with his boys, laughing and telling them Coast Guard stories. He was Cub Master for Harmony/Port Monmouth Pack 242 where he brought leadership, mentoring and values to all the boys of the pack.
John is survived by his wife Coleen Martorelli and their 3 boys; Zane, Gage and Wade. John is also survived by his adoring father John Martorelli, Sr. and his wife Gina; his loving mother Cynthia D'Amico and her husband Louis; two sisters, Sarah Caulfield and Melissa Mulligan; and two brothers, Dominick Martorelli and Matthew D'Amico. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends here and in England.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Sandy Hook Coast Guard Station on Saturday, August 19th at 2 pm .
The interment of ashes will take place along with Military Honors on Tuesday, August 22nd at the Brigadere General William C. Doyle NJ Veteran's Cemetery. The Chapel service will be at 2pm, please arrive at cemetery atleast 15 min early.
