John P. Sarin, 93, of Holmdel, passed away Monday, February 7th. John was born on July 19, 1928, a son of the late Melissa and Gustav "Gus" Sarin. John was raised in East Orange and graduated from the Clifford Scott High School in East Orange. He was extremely proud that he was a starter on their basketball team. After graduating , he enlisted in the US Navy where he was an electronics specialist. In 1951 he married the love of his life, Marijane North. They lived in East Orange before settling in Holmdel in 1960. John was an OSHA safety inspector for many years and retired as a supervisor. He was also co-owner, along with his brother-in-law, of the Plaza Shell Gas Station in Hazlet. For the past 27 years, John looked forward his daily trips to his son and daughter-in-law's home and business where he was the unofficial caretaker, mechanic and handyman at the Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals.
John was a Free and Accepted Mason over 60 years at the Copestone Ophir Lodge 108. He was one of the original members of Bamhallow Country Club. A dedicated golfer, his career included a hole-in-one, big money matches with his group to teaching and playing with his grandkids. John could often be found at the Middletown Elks Lodge, the Norwood Auto Parts store in Belford, or enjoying a beer in the garage with his friends. John was a hardworking, dedicated family man. He was the person you could go to for any problem you had, and he would help fix it. He could literally fix just about anything from cars to electronics to carpentry. He could fix a scraped knee, hurt feelings or a bad day. His family was everything to him, especially his grandchildren. He was their Paca; he was EVERYONE's Paca. Paca's love and support touched so many people and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
John was predeceased by his wife, Jane Sarin, in 1999, their son Leigh in 1966 and his sister Jane in 2010.
