John "Jack" Bayard, Sr. Obituary

John W. "Jack" Bayard, Sr., a cherished pillar of the East Keansburg community and a beacon of kindness and faith, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on March 17, 1934, in Highlands, Jack lived a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and commitment to his community.

Jack's journey began as a young man when he proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. His bravery and patriotism were the early hallmarks of a life lived in service to others. After his military service, Jack returned to his roots and settled in East Keansburg, where he would spend the majority of his life.

For 28 years, Jack was known as a First Class mechanic at JCP&L, where his work ethic and expertise were greatly valued. Upon retiring at the age of 60, he continued to serve his community as a school crossing guard at Thompson Middle School in Middletown Township for an additional 20 years, finally retiring at the age of 80. His dedication to the safety and well-being of the children he helped cross the street each day was a testament to his caring nature.

Jack's commitment to community service was further exemplified by his 63 years as a Life Member and Past Captain of the East Keansburg Fire Company and past Chief  of the Middletown Township Fire Department. His courage and leadership were evident as he actively fought fires well into his 80s, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

A loyal Mets and Giants fan, Jack's enthusiasm for his teams was infectious. He was also a longtime member of Belford United Methodist Church, where his melodious voice graced the choir and his faith-filled presence uplifted the congregation.

Above all, Jack was a loving husband to his Middle School Sweetheart, the late Mary Lou, with whom he shared 63 years and a beautiful life until her passing in 2018. He was a wonderful father to his two children, John, Jr. and his wife Jill, and Lynda and her husband Gene Pedoto. His role as PopPop was one he cherished deeply, doting on his grandchildren, Wesley Bayard and his fiancée Amy Johnson, along with their daughter Kiernan, and Jessica and Joe Scicchitano and their son Joey. Though he was predeceased by his siblings, his legacy of love and kindness lives on through his family.

Jack Bayard, Sr. was a man whose life was defined by loving service, unwavering kindness, and a faith that guided him through every chapter. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration. As we bid farewell to Jack, we celebrate a life well-lived, a community bettered by his presence, and a family blessed by his love.
