Julio Torres Garcia, 84, a longtime resident of Union Beach, passed away Monday, June 6th, at Riverview Medical Center. Julio was born in Villalba, Puerto Rico, a son of the late Juana (Garcia) and Julio Torres. After serving in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, Julio came to America and settled in Union Beach, where he worked for the Borough's Public Works Department for many years, retiring in 1998. Julio was an avid Yankees fan. He also enjoyed horse racing and looked forward to his annual Father's Day outing with his family at Monmouth Park.
Julio was predeceased by his wife Carmen in 2011. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Bethzaida Torres and his two brothers; Hector Torres and Osvaldo Torres. He is survived by three daughters, Carmen Torres, Julia Rivera, and Sonia Torres. He is also survived by four sons Phil Colon, Julio Torres Jr., Julio Torres and Jose Torres. Julio also leaves behind two sisters, Rosa Resto, Adriana Torres; three brothers, Oscar Torres, Mario Rodriguez, Wilfredo Torres; 20 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects Saturday from 3-6 pm at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals, 153 Church St., Belford. The funeral service will immediately follow at 6 pm at the funeral home. A private cremation will take place and his ashes will be buried along side his wife at Shoreland Memorial Gardens in Hazlet on Tuesday.
