Lorraine Gleason Duquette, 92, of Middletown, passed away on Tuesday, June 20th. Lorraine was born in Newark on May 20, 1925, the daughter of Francis and Myrtle Gleason. She was raised in Newark and the Bayshore area. She lived in many parts of the country, but returned to her hometown of Middletown in recent years. Lorraine was an avid roller skater in her younger years, skating with the Singing Wheels in Shrewsbury. She was also one of the first female inboard hydroplane racers in the northeast. Lorraine also enjoyed showing her AKC champion Pekingese, Aquarius. Lorraine was an LPN, graduating from one of the first classes at Monmouth Memorial Hospital. She worked at various area hospitals, including Riverview Medical Center, from where she retired. She was an avid reader. She was affectionately known as “NANNY” to everyone. She adored her 6 grandsons and was very proud of all of them. Lorraine is survived by Edward, her husband of 38 years. She is also survived by her son, John Powell and his wife, Anna, of Atlantic Highlands; her daughter Lorraine Hopwood and husband Kenneth of Port Monmouth , and her brother, Edwin. She is predeceased by her brothers, Capt. Frank Gleason and Richard Gleason. She is also survived by 9 beautiful great grandchildren.
