Lynn (Freeman) Scott

Lynn Freeman Scott, 65, of Glen Ridge, NJ, passed away Thursday, December 29th, at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair.  Lynn was born in Columbus, GA on March 8, 1957, the only child of Patricia (Lovelace) Freeman, of Alabama and the late Sidney Freeman of Georgia. She was raised in Fort Smith, Arkansas then moved to Shreveport, Louisiana for college, where she met her husband, Burtis. After marrying in 1980, they moved to New York City and resided in Brooklyn until settling in Glen Ridge in 1991.

    Lynn attended Centenary College of Louisiana where she was a theater major. This is where she met Scotty (Burtis’ nickname) during an audition for the college’s summer musical, Camelot.  They enjoyed attending Broadway Shows and were lucky enough to see 104 of them over the years. They also attended American Ballet Theatre at Lincoln Center. Lynn was a voracious reader which helped her remember scripts easily and her love of reading led her to her career in publishing. Her most recent job with the AKC, as the Managing Editor of their magazine AKC Gazette,was perfect for Lynn, it incorporated her love of reading and her love of dogs. She was especially fond of black German Shepherds and leaves behind her beloved Shepherd, Jax.  After being Vice President of the Women’s Club of Glen Ridge, Lynn enjoyed spending time at home, and could often be found baking. She will fondly be remembered as a loving and generous woman with a zest for life and a personality as big as her heart.

     Lynn is survived by her husband of 42 years, Burtis Scott along with her mother Patricia Freeman.

Lynn will be buried in her family plot in Antioch Cemetery, Alabama. Burial arrangements will be entrusted to Jeffcoat Trant Funeral Home in Opelika, Alabama.
