Martin B. O'Donnell, 85, of Middletown, passed away Sunday, March 20th. Martin was born in New York City on December 16, 1936, one of 6 sons born to the late Loretta and Martin Francis “Frank” O'Donnell. Martin lived in Brooklyn most of his life and only moved to Middletown 4 years ago to be with his daughter and family. Martin proudly served in the U.S. Marines. He was an ironworker with Local 40 for most of his life, he proudly helped construct the World Trade Center and the Verrazzano bridge working alongside his brothers on some projects.
Martin loved sports, he boxed in the Marines, enjoyed watching games on television and bringing his grandson Michael to sporting events throughout his life, he also volunteered his time to help the Police Athletic League in Sunset Park. Martin was especially close and fond of his Grandson Michael whom he spent much time with. Martin was strong, not only physically, but in his character. He had strong humanitarian beliefs and a strong loyalty to his family. Martin was the patriarch of the O'Donnell family. He was the anchor and the person you could go to for anything. He will always be fondly remembered as a loving father and grandfather.
Martin is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Delia Barrientoz and their daughter, Loretta O'Donnell, of Middletown. He also leaves behind 2, Joe O'Donnell and Michael O'Donnell along with 3 grandchildren: Michael, Jacquelyn, Matthew and 1 great grandson, Michael.
Martin was predeceased by his daughter Jacquelyn in 1986 and his 3 brothers: Damien, Thomas and Peter.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Wednesday from 5 - 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am on Thursday at Saint Mary Mother of God Church in New Monmouth. The Burial and committal will follow at Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island, NY.
