Maurice R. Ryan, 76, a lifelong resident of Union City, passed away Tuesday, January 17th. Maurice proudly served in the U.S. Army stationed in Alaska defending against the Soviets during the Vietnam Era. He returned home to become a Union City police officer where he worked for 31 years, retiring as Lieutenant. Maurice was a member of the American Legion, the Police Benevolent Association and Fraternal Order of Police. Maurice enjoyed fishing, the beach and ocean, but most of all adored his eight granddaughters and spending time with them. He and his wife retired to the Middletown area in October 2014, to be nearer to their children and grandchildren.
Maurice's beloved wife of 50 years, Eunice Ryan, predeceased him last July. He was also predeceased by all of his siblings; Joseph, Thomas, Robert, John, William, Marie and Catherine.
Maurice is survived by his daughter, Meridith (Kevin) Enny, of Belford; and two sons Matthew (Diana) Ryan, and Maurice (Mimi) Ryan, all of Middletown, along with 9 granddaughters; Rebecca, Sara, Nicole, Olivia, Veronica, April, Cali, Lillian, and Holly.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects Friday from 5-8 pm and again Saturday from 8-9 am at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals, 153 Church St., Belford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine's Church in Middletown, at 9:30 am on Saturday, January 21st. The burial and committal will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
