Robert W. Truair, Sr., 74, of Port Monmouth, passed away Wednesday, May 25th. Robert was born in Olewine, Iowa on December 5, 1947, a son of the late Edith and Robert J. Truair. His family moved to Matawan when he was a toddler. After marrying the love of his life, Barbara Yager on May 26, 1968, the settled in Port Monmouth. Bob was a sheriff's officer at the Monmouth County Sheriff's Department for 20 years retiring over 20 years ago. While there, he was a part of the Search and Rescue Scuba team and helped with the fingerprinting program for children. In his spare time, Bob was a fire range instructor for many years. He was also a Lifetime Member of the Port Monmouth Fire Company. Bob loved riding motorcycles, especially his Harley. He enjoyed camping and being outdoors. When he was younger, he made many hunting trips to Maine. One of his favorite vacations that he looked forward to every year was his annual Wedding Anniversary trip to Aruba with his wife, Barbara. Bob will fondly be remembered as a loving husband and devoted father who had a great sense of humor.
Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Truair and their 6 children: Barbara Ann Truair, Sharon (Ken) Herceg, Christy Truair, Jessica (Dave) Brandzel, Andrea (Neal) Polycandriotis, and Robert Truair, Jr.
He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Cheyann, Robert, Josie, Hunter, Scott, Jr., Jamie, Danny, Nikko, Robbie, Gabby, Brianna, and Nicholas.
Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Sunday from 2 - 5 pm. A funeral service will conclude the afternoon at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals, 153 Church St, Belford.
