Sheila Herbster, a beacon of kindness and generosity, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024. Born on June 27, 1945 in the bustling city of New York and raised with the indomitable spirit of the Bronx, Sheila's journey through life was marked by her unwavering faith and the love she shared with those around her.
Sheila's early years in New York City were the foundation of a life lived with purpose and compassion. After completing nursing school, she ventured to Ireland, where she began her nursing career. She was fortunate enough to stay with family and embraced the culture and people, forming bonds that would last a lifetime. Her career as a nurse was a testament to her dedication to caring for others, with her time at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City leaving a lasting impact on many lives. Sheila continued her noble work with the Visiting Nurse Association in New Jersey, where her gentle touch and warm smile were a comfort to all she served.
In her 40s, Sheila's path led her to Long Branch, where she met the love of her life, Larry. Together, they built a life filled with joy and companionship in West Allenhurst. Their shared love for travel often took them to Ireland, a place close to Sheila's heart, where they created cherished memories. An avid reader, Sheila found solace and adventure within the pages of countless books, and her love for the beach was a testament to her appreciation for nature's beauty.
Sheila's life was enriched by her beloved family. Her husband, H. Larry Herbster, stood by her side as a partner and best friend. Though she was predeceased by her sister Maureen Brereton, her brother John Costigan, and her parents Jack and Molly Costigan, Sheila's legacy lives on through her five nieces and nephews, who will forever hold dear the generosity and kindness she bestowed upon them.
Known for her faith-filled life, Sheila's actions spoke volumes of the love she had for her community and the divine. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her kind spirit was a light that brightened the lives of all who knew her.
Sheila's life was a series of moments spent cherishing her loved ones, nurturing her passions, and giving selflessly. Her dates with Larry were not just a testament to their enduring love but also to the joy they found in each other's company. Sheila's life story is one of love, service, and the grace with which she walked through the world.
