Stella Atwater, 88, a longtime resident of Belford, peacefully passed away Thursday, December 17th. Stella was born in New Kensington, Pa. on August 8, 1932, a daughter of the late Lily and Joseph Milko, Sr. As a child her family moved to Belford, where she lived most of her life. Stella was a member of the Independent Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and also belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Coast Guard. She enjoyed playing bingo at the firehouse. Stella and her husband were very active members of the Basset Hound Club of America and life members of the Berkshire Valley Basset Hound Club. They raised hounds for many years. Stella was a faithful member of Belford United Methodist Church where she was Treasurer for many years.
Stella was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Fred Atwater in 2008. She is survived by their three children; their daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Harold Sutton and two sons ; Fred Atwater and Eric and his wife Tammy Atwater. Stella also leaves behind 3 grandchildren; Matthew Atwater, Jason Sutton and Amanda Sutton, along with many extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her 3 brothers; Richard Milko, Joseph Milko and Robert Milko.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Sunday from 2-4 pm and again Monday from 11 - 12 noon just prior to the funeral service at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals. The burial and committal will follow at Bayview Cemetery.
