Susan Cully Obituary

Susan R. Cully, a remarkable woman who brought joy and happiness to everyone she encountered, passed away on February 9, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on July 31, 1933, in East Orange, NJ to the late Ralph and Ethel Vogel. Sue was raised in Brooklyn, NY, where she developed her vibrant personality, love for making people smile and the nickname "Suzie-Q."  After marrying William Cully, Sue and Bill moved to Staten Island, where they raised their family. Bill built their family home, and they resided there until 2000. Sue and Bill then retired to Matawan, for several years before Bill's passing in 2004. Sue stayed there until 2017 and eventually moved into a senior residence.

Sue had a special gift for lighting up a room whenever she entered. Her warm and friendly nature made her a natural at meeting new people, and she could engage in conversations for hours. As a devout Christian, Sue often shared her faith by saying, "Go with God" or "God loves you."

Throughout her life, Sue had several significant moments and experiences that shaped her journey. She achieved great success as a top seller for Tupperware and was honored as one of the first recipients awarded a car for her exceptional sales. Her dedication and hard work were also evident during her 35-year tenure at Macy's in Staten Island, where she served in their customer service department. Additionally, Sue spent several years as a librarian at Wagner College, sharing her love for books and knowledge with others.

One of Sue's favorite hobbies was her passion for the theater and Broadway shows. She had a natural talent for performing and enjoyed music and dancing. Growing up, Sue had the unique opportunity to be neighbors with the legendary comedian Henny Youngman. She not only babysat his children but also had the privilege of performing at USO Shows alongside Henny Youngman and Bob Hope. She embodied the spirit of one of her favorite comedians and actresses, Lucille Ball, with her fiery red hair and vibrant personality.

Sue's impact on the lives of those who knew her was immeasurable. She left her family with countless cherished memories and set an example of always seeing the best in people. Her positive outlook on life and her ability to bring joy to others will be remembered and cherished by all.

Susan is survived by her three children and their spouses: Ward (Marybeth) Cully, Robin (Kevin) Krippa, and Caroline (Tore) Pedersen. She also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren, Jessica, Kevin Jr., Carylee, Katie, Kristopher, and Karen, as well as two great-grandchildren, Pyper and Connor.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, February 17th, from 1 - 4 pm. The funeral service will conclude the afternoon, followed by a private cremation.
