Thomas Owen Kelly, 80, of Hazlet Township, passed away Tuesday, February 13th. Thomas was born in Hoboken, a son of the late Laura and Thomas Kelly. Tom lived in West New York, Union City and Keansburg before settling in Hazlet in 1960. He served in the National Guard for several years then started his work career as a draftsman at Bell Labs and worked there until 1966. Tom then went to work for Crown Tire until 1992 when he opened his own shop, Complete Tire and Auto Repair in Hazlet. Tom finally retired in 2013.
Tom was a communicant of St Ann's Parish, a lifetime member of the Middletown Elks and an exempt member of the West Keansburg Fire Department. He was one of the first Commissioners of the Hazlet Fire District and was involved with the Hazlet Township Zoning Board, Planning Board and the Sewer Authority.
Tom was predeceased by his wife Patricia in 1997 and their son Scott in 2006. He is survived by his daughter, Colleen Kelly, and son, Mark Kelly, both of Hazlet. Thomas is also leaves behind two sisters, Patricia Racz, of Hazlet and Marie Werner and her husband Jack, of Ocean Twp., along with a brother, Keith Kelly, of Keyport.
To honor Tom's wishes, there will be no services. We just ask that you keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
