William C. Tompkins, Sr. "Tommy", 85, of Sea Bright, passed away Tuesday, May 22nd. Tommy was born and raised in Manhattan, and after serving in the Marines as a paratrooper, stationed in Japan during the Korean War, he moved to Belford where he was an independent building contractor in the Bayshore area for many years. He eventually retired to Sea Bright 35 years ago. Tommy belonged to the American Legion post 338 in Leonardo and the VFW posts in Port Monmouth and Highlands. He was also an avid NY Giants and Yankees fan. Tommy enjoyed fishing and trips to Atlantic City, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Tommy is survived by his devoted companion of over 40 years, Patty Hamlin and his four children; daughters, Patricia Cranick and Ann Bradley along with sons, Robert and Michael Tompkins. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Tommy was predeceased by his two sons William, Jr. and Glen Tompkins.
A Memorial Gathering will take place Tuesday, May 29th from 5 - 7 pm at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals, 153 Church St., Belford.
